Celebrate Recovery ® UK North East

What happens at the meetings?

Whichever Celebrate Recovery meeting you attend, you’ll find the same lessons and basic format.

The meetings are in three parts. We all meet together for the large group time before moving into gender-specific small groups for support. The meeting closes with a social time for refreshments and a chance to get to know each other.

Large group time

The first part of a Celebrate Recovery meeting includes

  • Welcome and notices
  • Worship
  • 8 Celebrate Recovery Principles or 12 Steps read from the front
  • Recovery lesson or testimony
  • Close with the Prayer for Serenity

Prayer for Serenity
God, grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things I can, and the wisdom to know the difference. Living one day at a time, enjoying one moment at a time; accepting hardship as a pathway to peace; taking, as Jesus did, this sinful world as it is, not as I would have it; trusting that You will make all things right if I surrender to Your will; so that I may be reasonably happy in this life and supremely happy with You forever in the next. Amen.

Open Share Groups

We then move into Open Share Groups to consider the Principle we are focussing on that evening. There is also time for more open sharing about what is going on in our lives and recovery. There are important guidelines to follow in these groups which keep the sharing time safe. We focus on our own recovery and respond to the question and not to other people. It may take a bit of getting used to but it works and it's safe!

  • Read Small Group Guidelines
  • Focused sharing around the Principle for that evening
  • Open sharing

Social Time

After our group time we all come together again for a chance to wind down, ask questions and get to know other people.
